Lock and Dam Number Nine

Upstream lock gate at Lock and Dam Number 9 on the Muskingum River, on the Philo side of the river between Philo and Duncan Falls. These locks were in operation until the early 1950s.

At Malta I left the Old River Road and crossed to the east side of the Muskingum River to McConnelsville. As I was leaving McConnelsville I stopped briefly at another old lock and dam site.

Historical Marker: Big Bottom Massacre

I'm not sure why this sign was placed here in addition to the one by the Ohio Historical Society. The information is a briefer summary than on the OHS one.

Stopped to look back while climbing up and away from the Muskingum River toward SR 60.

Round Bottom Cemetery and an old school house, east of Beverly in Waterford Township. (This was the last photo of the day. Between here and Marietta there was one, final, big hill to climb.)
